What is Decorative Plywood?

Decorative plywood is made by binding together multiple thin veneers with a strong adhesive, creating a material with consistent strength and durability. The veneers are arranged at right angles to each other, ensuring stability. Available in various grades and species, decorative plywood is known for its resistance to cracking and splitting. It typically comes in 4′ x 8′ sheets with thicknesses ranging from 1/4″ to 3/4″.

Uses for Decorative Plywood

  • Furniture: Ideal for bookshelves, chairs, tables, and cabinets.
  • Architecture: Used in flooring, custom cabinetry, wall panels, and ceiling tiles.
  • Packaging: Suitable for tool and equipment cases.
  • Toys: Perfect for dollhouses and play tables.

Applications

Decorative plywood is versatile for home construction, commercial properties, and signage. It can be bonded with either moisture-resistant (MR) glue for interior use or phenolic (WBP) glue for exterior applications. MR glue is less durable against moisture, so understanding the glue type is crucial.
